I'm thinking about building a new system or upgrading and would like some
opinions
my current system is
MOBO = MSI KT7
CPU AMD XP2800
RAM 1.5gb
AGP Radeon 9600
3 hard drives = 225gb storage
I'm not sure I need to do this leave system as is Everything works on
Half-life 2 looks good
and if I upgrade to what? I think I can only go to a XP3200 cpu and to add
more ram I would need all new
with out doing some checking I think the ram is PC 2700 333 I think the
board will accept PC 3200 400
what video card to get ATI 850 or Nvida?
If I go with a new mobo and graphic card what ones? and Intel or AMD
help

Mick,

I've left my old system as is (and passed it on to the kids)
PowerMax 300W PSU
Gigabyte GA-KT600
XP 1600+ (possible XP3200 in future)
256 MB DDR333 (1 GB option here)
Asus FX 5600 128MB DDR (might replace this in future)
40 GB Fujitsu HDD Primary master
8 GB Fujitsu HDD Primary slave
AOpen 48x12x50x CDRW Secondary master
Sony 16x40x DVD Secondary slave
17" monitor

and built a new system, to try and last 3 years (which the old did)
New :
Antec sx1040b Performance II case
Antec 400W PSU
ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe
Athlon64 3200+
2x512MB DDR400 Dual Channnel
2x Asus 6600GT PCI-e SLI
160 GB WD SATA
80 GB WD SATA
LG 4163B DVD-RW
19" Viewsonix VX912 8ms LCD

I'd go for those dual core Athlons. Everything but Socket 939 seems to
be dead. XP2800->XP3200 doesn't sound worth it. At least double your power.

AMD. Unless you desperately need one of the very few things where Intel
is faster.
